The White House Censors New York Times Op-Ed

What We Wanted to Tell You About Iran - New York Times

The New York Times today prints an op-ed piece, written by a former NSC official, complete with the redactions demanded by the White House. The CIA's Publication Review Board had already cleared the original draft, but had to revisit that decision under pressure from the Bush administration.

The following is from an Op-Ed By FLYNT LEVERETT and HILLARY MANN that I think really says it all.

National security must be above politics. In a democracy, transparency in government has to be honored and protected. To classify information for reasons other than the safety and security of the United States and its interests is a violation of these principles. It is for this reason that we will continue to press for the release of the article without the material deleted.

The White House's decision to censor this Op-Ed proves that they are more interested in playing politics than actually solving any issues facing our country today. Issues that have been inflamed by their actions.
