NPR : Border Fence Firm Snared for Hiring Illegal Workers

NPR : Border Fence Firm Snared for Hiring Illegal Workers

Oh the irony...

A firm building the idiotic fence to keep illegal immigrants out of the United States is being fined for hiring the very same illegals.

The government is also recommending jail time for Melvin Kay and Michael McLaughlin, probably about six months.

Awesome!

Obama, wife fears for his safety

sweet: Sweet column: Obama, wife fears for his safety. Says he has a "pretty good chance of winning the nomination.'': "Obama, wife fears for his safety"

Barack Obama talks about the very real fear of getting shot if he decides to run for President in 2008. At least he is realistic because hey folks racism is alive and strong in America today. Or haven't you noticed all the wars against people with tan skin. Afghanistan? Iraq? Immigration? Hurricane Katrina? Does this ring a bell with any of you.

Stay safe Barack. Don't be intimidated.

Saudi Arabia manipulates the Administration.

I found the following at the Randi Rhodes Show web site.

Saudi Arabia has just pulled their ambassador out of the America, and is now threatening us with an oil crash and Iraq intervention if we stop fighting this war for them.

What’s in it for Saudi Arabia to keep Iraq either in chaos or under their thumb? It’s the oil, stupid. In 2002, SA was already freaked out over the thought of Iraq being able to produce oil to capacity because the Saudis have ruined their country and needed to suppress global production in order to spike prices for themselves. And now, Saudi Arabia is enjoying budget surpluses with no external debt.

Very interesting stuff. Also remember the Saudis summoned Dick Cheney for a meeting a two weeks back. Cheney hasn't told the public what the meeting was about or what was said. You have to think that these guys are the puppets of the Saudi Royal Family.

I mean, don't you find it strage that our Vice President runs as fast as he can when the Saudis call? I do.

The August 6 PDB

Under pressure from the September 11 commission, the White House declassified and released an intelligence digest given to President George W. Bush weeks before the 2001 terrorist attacks. The confidential President's Daily Brief (PDB) for August 6, 2001 contained a two-page section entitled "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US," and refers to possible hijacking attempts by Osama bin Laden disciples and the existence of about 70 FBI investigations into alleged al-Qaeda cells operating within the United States.

The August 6 PDB, an excerpt from which you'll find here, was presented to Bush while he vacationed at his ranch in Crawford, Texas. The digest is prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency, an official from which briefs the president on the report's contents. While Bush critics have described the August 6 PDB as a warning of an impending al-Qaeda attack, Condoleezza Rice, Bush's national security adviser, testified that the document contained "historical information based on old reporting. There was no new threat information."

In other words she lied to Congress

AlterNet: Blogs: Video: Burn these Republican words into your mind

AlterNet: Blogs: Video: Burn these Republican words into your mind

On January 17, 1961, Dwight D. Eisenhower said goodbye to public office with an address that concluded with the words below [strangely, the Eisenhower Library's version and the audio in the video to the right, differ slightly. Brackets represent the text in the Library version omitted from the audio file...].

You're familiar with the warnings in this speech against the "military-industrial complex," but the subtler parts of the speech are every bit as powerful and refreshing...

As we peer into society's future, we - you and I, and our government - must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without asking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.

During the long lane of the history yet to be written America knows that this world of ours, ever growing smaller, must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect.

[Such a confederation must be one of equals. The weakest must come to the conference table with the same confidence as do we, protected as we are by our moral, economic, and military strength. That table, though scarred by many past frustrations, cannot be abandoned for the certain agony of the battlefield.]

[Disarmament, with mutual honor and confidence, is a continuing imperative.] Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose. Because this need is so sharp and apparent I confess that I lay down my official responsibilities in this field with a definite sense of disappointment. As one who has witnessed the horror and the lingering sadness of war - as one who knows that another war could utterly destroy this civilization which has been so slowly and painfully built over thousands of years - I wish I could say tonight that a lasting peace is in sight.

Happily, I can say that war has been avoided. Steady progress toward our ultimate goal has been made. But, so much remains to be done. As a private citizen, I shall never cease to do what little I can to help the world advance along that road.

So - in this my last good night to you as your President - I thank you for the many opportunities you have given me for public service in war and peace. I trust that in that service you find some things worthy; as for the rest of it, I know you will find ways to improve performance in the future.

You and I, my fellow citizens, need to be strong in our faith, that all nations, under God, will reach the goal of peace, with justice. May we be ever unswerving in devotion to principle, confident but humble with power, diligent in pursuit of the Nation's great goals.

To all the peoples of the world, I once more give expression to America's prayerful and continuing aspiration:

We pray that peoples of all faiths, all races, all nations, may have their great human needs satisfied; that those now denied opportunity shall come to enjoy it to the full; that all who yearn for freedom may experience its spiritual blessings; that those who have freedom will understand, also, its heavy responsibilities; that all who are insensitive to the needs of others will learn charity; that the scourges of poverty, disease and ignorance will be made to disappear from the earth, and that, in the goodness of time, all peoples will come to live together in a peace guaranteed by the binding force of mutual respect and love.
